The ageing process happens to us all and many of us lose confidence in our looks when the signs of ageing become more apparent. If there was a way to effectively turn back the clock on how we look physically, so that we could look younger than years, wouldn’t we all try that? It may be unfair, but plenty of surveys have shown that a more youthful appearance will elicit a more positive responsive in others when it comes to our love lives and our careers.
For some people, the signs of ageing appear faster than expected. This is often because of contributing lifestyle factors. Sun damage and smoking are known to cause premature ageing to our skin and obviously this can cause frustration after the damage has been done, when you realise that you’re looking older than your peers of the same age. However, it is possible to reverse this damage by having a facelift.
Demetrius Evriviades is an experienced plastic and cosmetic surgeon, who provides his anti-ageing treatments here in Birmingham. He can perform a surgical facelift, with permanent effects, or non-invasive facelift treatments of a more temporary nature. Let’s have a look at the facelift options available:
Surgical facelifts in Birmingham
You will get the full details of what your procedure will involve when you visit Demetrius Evriviades for your initial consultation, but here’s an overview. A SMAS (or full) facelift procedure will be carried out under a general anaesthetic to ensure you experience no discomfort. Your surgeon will make some small, discreet incisions just in front of the ear and the hairline. Once this has been done the skin can be lifted, pulled back and resituated, before being secured in place.
Bandages will be applied to reduce the swelling and you’ll need to keep these on for 2-3 days afterwards. When you remove the bandages, there will be some swelling and bruising, but this will soon settle. Demetrius will examine you on subsequent appointments throughout the week to keep an eye on your progress and make sure that you are healing properly. The sutures will be removed after a week. They may leave scars, but please be assured that these scars will fade.
Your face will be rejuvenated following facelift surgery and the changes made will be permanent. Although you will continue to age, you’ll still look significantly younger than your peers. Your resulting look will be natural and more attractive.
Lighter versions of surgical facelifts are also possible. A MACs facelift involves tightening just the lower half of the face and a threadlift takes only 45 minutes and involves no downtime.
Anti-wrinkle injections to combat sagging
Botox and dermal fillers are anti-wrinkle injectables. Botox temporarily stops your facial muscles from contracting in order to prevent wrinkles from forming, while dermal fillers will fill in creases in your face, by creating a cushioning effect from below the surface of the skin and adding volume, where skin volume is reduced. Both treatments take just a few minutes to administer and have a highly noticeable, but natural-looking rejuvenating effect. You will look younger following treatment.
The results of Botox last for 3-4 months, while the results of dermal fillers last for 6 months. However, which treatment will best suit you depends on the area you want to target. Botox is most effective on the upper face; around the eyes and forehead, while fillers work everywhere else. Demetrius will be able to advise you on the best course of action to combat your own individual signs of ageing.
Fat transfer is another way of adding volume to thinning facial skin; a great way to look more youthful. Fat is taken from an area of your body, where there is an excess and is applied to your face to make you look more youthful.
